Can you use carbon fiber straps to repair a brick foundation with a bowing wall of less than 2 inches?

Under 2 inches of deflection is the standard window where carbon fiber holds the wall and stops further movement. Past 2 inches, the wall has moved too far for straps alone, and you step up to a power brace or wall anchors. We come look, measure the bow, and tell you which one you actually need.
Why a wall bows in the first place
Brick and block walls bow inward because of pressure from the soil outside. Around most New England homes, that soil is disturbed backfill. It is the loose fill that got put back against the foundation when the house was built. It drains slowly and holds water. Wet soil gets heavy and pushes.
Then winter shows up. NH frost heave freezes that wet backfill and shoves the wall inward a little more each year. A hairline lean becomes a real bow over a few cold seasons. That is why we look at the soil and water story, not just the crack.
How carbon-fiber straps work
Carbon fiber is stiff. Very stiff. We bond vertical straps to the inside face of the wall with a structural epoxy, anchored top and bottom. Once cured, the strap will not stretch, so the wall cannot keep moving inward. No more bow.
The work is clean and stays inside. No digging up your yard. No tearing out the wall. One day on most jobs. The straps sit flat against the wall, so you can still finish the basement later. We back this wall stabilization with a 25-year warranty.
Straps stop the bow. They do not push the wall back out. If your wall is under 2 inches and you mainly need it to stop moving and stay put, that is exactly what carbon fiber is built for. You don’t need a more expensive system yet.
When carbon fiber is not enough
If the bow is more than 2 inches, or the wall is sheared, tipping at the top, or sliding at the floor wall joint, straps alone won’t carry it. That is power-brace territory, and a brace runs around $1,300 per brace. Some walls need wall anchors instead, which pull the wall back over time. We price wall anchors and steel I-beams after we see the wall, because the right count and spacing depends on the bow.
If the footing under the wall is failing or settling, the fix is below the wall, not on its face. That is when we talk helical or push piers, which start around $2,700 per pier for the first three, then $2,200 per pier after that. We won’t sell you straps over a settlement problem they can’t fix.
What drives the cost
A few things move the number on a carbon-fiber job. How many straps the wall needs, which depends on its length and how far it has bowed. Whether we are also injecting cracks where water is getting through, since crack injection starts around $1,000 to $3,000. And whether the wall needs help at the base. If water is also coming through the wall or the floor wall joint, stabilizing the wall and keeping it dry are two different jobs.
