It reaches soil that holds
Most foundation settling in New Hampshire comes from the dirt under the footing. A lot of that dirt is disturbed backfill. That is the looser fill the builder put back when the house went up. It drains slowly, it holds water, and over time it compresses. Your footing rides down with it. Then the frost gets involved. NH frost heave pushes and shifts as the ground freezes and thaws each year.
A helical pile skips past that trouble. It is a steel shaft with helix plates near the tip. We turn it into the ground like a giant screw until the plates bite into firm, load-bearing soil well below the frost line. The weight of your house then transfers down the shaft to that stable layer. The shallow problem soil no longer carries the load.
No big dig
Other deep supports can mean heavy excavation and a torn-up yard. Helical piles go in with a hydraulic drive head and a much smaller footprint. We can often work in tight spots, close to the house, even inside a basement or crawl space when needed. Less digging means less mess, less landscape to put back, and a faster job.

Helical piers are for vertical settling, when the footing has dropped and the structure needs to be carried by deeper soil.
